What's the best thing about working at Schell Games?
The work culture is the best of anywhere I have worked. People are genuinely kind and caring, there is a lot of transparency in decision making, and individuals at all levels have a lot of autonomy.
What motivated you to begin working in the game industry?
I was drawn more to this company specifically than to the industry. I was lucky to have worked with Schell Games for 3 years as a client before working for Schell Games. Every time we had meetings together, I got really excited about the people I was working with and their incredible creativity and talent.
What’s the best piece of advice you received?
Everything of value requires trust and risk.
What was your favorite game as a child?
For video games, I really liked Super Nintendo's Super Mario Kart. I played a lot of card games and Scattergories as a kid too.
If you could instantly become an expert in anything, what would it be?
I would love to be an expert gardener that knew everything about every plant, tree and flower and how to make them flourish.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Pittsburgh?
Spending time outdoors - running or walking through any of the amazing city parks, riding my bike on the river trails, and taking day trips to the Laurel Highlands Mountains.
What are you most proud of working on while at Schell Games?
I am proud of adding data analytics as a consistent part of the development cycle and decision-making process, and I am proud of iterating on a framework for improving our games' accessibility.
If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
I would love to be able to fly. I once flew in an ultra light plane, which is like a hang glider with an engine, and it was incredible to see the world from that vantage point and feel the wind on my face. When I was in high school, I seriously looked into going to flight school to be a pilot.
What was the weirdest job you ever had?
I worked as a sales associate in a sock store. All we sold were socks. I loved it.
